Cornell University through a mail sent to Cornell Bowers faculty announced the demise of one their student, Emily Ryu. According to Cornellians_only post on Instagram, Emily Ryu died on Sunday October 26, 2025 at her off-campus residence.
Her cause of death has not been confirmed yet.
In 2021 Emily Ryu graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in Chemistry and minors in Applied Math and Computer Science. Emily had previously worked with Prof. Matt Weinberg on Bayesian auction design for multi-item revenue maximization.
On her website, she said he has aspired to work on matching markets with biased and malleable preferences.
She was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow at Cornell, advised by Professors Éva Tardos and Jon Kleinberg. Her research interests included algorithmic game theory, mechanism design, and optimization.
As quoted from the email made available to Cornellsun, the Cornell Bowers faculty from Interim Bowers Dean and dean of Cornell’s Graduate School and vice provost for graduate education advised the students to care for each and help out when needed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Emily Ryu at this sad moment.
