The Wrestling community is thrown into a state following the sudden and sad demise of Hudson Stewart. Reports online state that the wrestling champion passed away on July 3, 2025.
UVA Wrestling through a post made on their official Instagram page confirmed the demise of Hudson.
Our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers are with the family of Hudson Stewart.
Hudson Stewart’s cause of death was not disclosed to the public at the time of filing this report.
Virginia Head Wrestling Coach Steve Garland also reacting to Hudson’s death, described him as an intelligent young man who impacted many lives around him.

My heart is broken for the Stewart family. Hudson was an intelligent young man and a great teammate. He was raised by great parents and surrounded by loving brothers. My heart aches for this wonderful family.
Hudson was a two-time Virginia state champion, but what i admired most about Hud was his commitment to live out his faith. He traveled overseas several times to share the gospel through the platform of wrestling with strangers. That’s just amazing to me. I encourage everyone to pray for him and his family during this difficult time.
