Jack McCoy has said his final aloha, passing away overnight. A filmmaker, friend, and force of nature, Jack turned surf film into high art with a string of modern classics, but was far more than the sum of those. As Derek Hynd once pointed out, “Everyone needs a Jack McCoy in their life at some point.”

A showman to the end, Jack just finished touring his classic, Blue Horizon, despite significant health issues. The show went on. The larger-than-life Hawaiian/Australian leaves a huge hole in the surfing culture, which his catalogue will fill. Thoughts today with his family and all the surfers around the world close to him. We’ve lost a giant. Mahalo, Jack.
