It has been reported online that Stu Nixon, WHSFL Coach, has sadly passed away. The report says he died on May 19, 2025 and circumstances surrounding his sad demsie was not disclosed to the public.

The Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) confirmed the passing of Stu Nixon through an official statement released via their social media platforms.

The press release reads below;

The WHSFL is heartbroken over the sudden passing of Stu Nixon. Beloved Coach, Educator, friend, and mentor to so many. It’s with heavy hearts that we offer his family and loved ones our deepest condolences.

Coach Nixon was a fixture on the WHSFL sidelines for decades, with multiple championships during his Hall of Fame career. He was a legend on and off the field. He played an instrumental role in the lives of so many and in the current success of the WHSFL.

Reacting to Stu’s sad demise, Mike Kelly on Facebook made a heart felt tribute describing him as a true gem for the WHSFL.

This is an awful day for me. In 2010, I was truly at the lowest point of my life. I lost the job that I coveted, and my mental health was in a bad place. Coach Nixon asked me to help at Oak Park.

I went to practice 3-4 times a week. Helped the QBs and receivers and gave schematic advice. He wanted me to go to games, but I refused as I knew the focus had to be on the players and him, not allowing the local media to make a spectacle of me being with the program. Oak Park won the city championship. I have the medal presented to me by Stu.

He was a true friend when I needed him, and we remained friends. I had an awesome time with him and his wife Connie last winter at Jeffrey’s Restaurant. We had a real conversation about life. Endurance and persistence. Not just bullshit bar talk.

The community is not as good today as it was yesterday with his passing. He was a true gem for the WHSFL, Oak Park, and the entire city of Winnipeg. I’ll miss you my friend…thank you for being you…
